if God were proven to exist, atheists, generally speaking, could handle it, some may change, some would be down or face a change of perspective to some degree, some may rebel and curse God even more, but essentially i do not think the life of the '' average '' atheist would change much.
on the other hand..........
if God, somehow some way were proven not too exist, it would result in a major global upheaval, mass suicide, especially in radical fundamentalist areas, a serious global psychological depression.
in other words, true believers, generally speaking, would not handle it well at all, their lives, their perspectives, their goals, etc. would change radically, it would be like a giant rug pulled out from underneath billions of people, it would be ugly as hell pardon the pun.
