Which dog breed would be better?
The fam is thinking about getting a giant dog. My question is Great Dane, English Mastiff and St. Bernard, which one
1) has best temperment around agressive/ Dominant dogs
2) best temperment with strangers
3) gentlest with little kids IE babies and Toddlers
4) easiest to train
We already have a Bloodhound who thinks she rules the planet so we need something that will work and play well with her
I would not get a St. Bernard because of the hair. If you have to have a giant dog, at least get one with a short coat- that's my theory. The Dane and the Mastiff fit all of those conditions, assuming that you will be fully supervising them with the children, as all dogs and small children should be. My advice is to get a male and neuter him. If you have a dominant dog, it is best to get the opposite gender, esp. with females as males are naturally submissive to them.
